Our step-by-step potholing process

  1. Planning a Preparation
Before commencing the utility potholing process, it’s essential to undertake thorough planning and preparation. This encompasses reaching out to the 811-call center, securing any required permits, coordinating with traffic control providers, and ensuring the area’s security. It’s also vital to equip the workers with the necessary safety gear and tools.
  2. Site Assessment
Utility Marking LLC conducts a comprehensive site assessment to precisely identify utility locations and plan the placement of test holes. This step plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our HydroVac potholing process.
  3. Vacuum Excavation
Our skilled crew safely exposes the utility at the designated location. This is achieved by utilizing either high-pressure water or high-pressure air to break up soil, followed by vacuum excavation.
  4. Utility Data Collection
After exposing the utility, our crew proceeds to identify it and record essential information such as its location, attributes, and vertical data.
  5. Backfilling
Once the necessary data is recorded, the hole is promptly backfilled using either the material removed during excavation or gravel. This process ensures the area is restored to its original condition.
  6. Waste Disposal
Any waste generated during the process of potholing is disposed of under all applicable local regulations.
